Grafting: propagate trees and roses by grafting

Grafting joins two plants into one: a rootstock — the roots, chosen for vigour or resistance — and a scion, the variety you want, chosen for its fruit or flowers. It's the signature technique for fruit trees and roses: it reproduces a variety exactly, speeds up fruiting and adapts the plant to your soil. Bud grafting, cleft, whip-and-tongue, crown — each method has its season and its use. It's more technical than sowing or cuttings, but spectacular when it takes.
