Sowing: grow your plants from seed
Sowing is the most natural way to multiply a plant — from a seed, stone or pip. It's accessible, cheap and rewarding, but every species has its own needs: scarification, cold stratification, soaking, bottom heat or light. Germination can take a few days (tomatoes, squash) to several months (palms, trees). Sowing suits most annuals, vegetables, herbs, flowers and many trees and exotics. The keys: fresh seed, a light and moist mix, a steady temperature and patience. Below are our video guides to succeed at sowing, plant by plant.
